Automatic filtration protection
June 1st 2007

Severn Trent Water has installed a series of nitrate removal systems for its un-manned borehole water treatment plants.

Nitrate removal plants incorporate vessels with ion exchange resin to remove nitrates from raw water, and it is vital that any particulates, such as sand or grit, in the water are removed to prevent damage to the sensitive resin beads and stop the risk of blockages.

The systems incorporate skidmounted units with Boll filters to provide particulate removal (down to 50 microns). Each skid is fitted with an automatic self-cleaning filter plus a standby manual filter linked to a remote alarm. The automatic filter – which is set to backflush on a regular basis or if the system pressure drops – prevents potential blockages in the equipment.

Boll filters are designed for longlife performance in demanding conditions – offering filtration levels from 25 micron to 3mm.
