Power station flooding problems unblocked June 1st 2008 When the largest coal fired power
station in Europe was experiencing
regular sub-basement flooding, it
called on ITT Water & Wastewater.
Drax Power Station, in Selby, North
Yorkshire, produces almost 10% of
the UK's power and has enjoyed a
strong relationship with ITT Water
& Wastewater for over eight years.
During this time, a permanent
maintenance team from ITT Water
& Wastewater has been available
on-site.
To eradicate the hazard caused
by the flooding and create a safe
working environment, ITT Water &
Wastewater designed a solution
that consisted of the new Flygt Ni-
Hard 4 hard metal HS8043.181
range – capable of clearing water,
and the wash down debris with
large solids, which had been
blocking the original pumps.
With the difficulty in obtaining
critical spares for the existing
control panels, it was necessary to
replace them. ITT Water &
Wastewater provided a team to
install the equipment; as well as the
permanent site engineers, to
ensure there was no interference
with day to day operational duties.
ITT Water & Wastewater has
installed thirteen of its Flygt
HS8043.181 7.5kw pumps and new
control panels with ultra sonic level
controls. The new Flygt pumps are
a vortex hydraulic design which
minimises the risk of blocking with
debris – solving the previous
problem of blockages. More articles from I T T Flygt Ltd: |
