Time to exploit the energy saving potential of heat, says power giant October 15th 2007 Speaking from its energy efficiency R&D centre in Paris, researchers for EDF Group say they see huge energy saving opportunities in heat.
With over two thirds of total energy consumed in industry used in the generation of heat, researchers at EDF's energy efficiency research centre predict this is where 85% of energy efficiency potential lies.
By maximising the efficiency of boilers, furnaces, drying and heat recovery processes, and HVAC, EDF Group says businesses can find many more ways to save energy.
The centre's main research topics for improving energy efficiency in industry include:
- Methodology and numerical tools for optimised energy management
- Development of very high efficiency and well integrated technologies for industrial processes
- Waste heat recovery and revalorisation
- Induction heating
The Paris research centre is one of the resources EDF Group uses for its Advanced Efficiency Programme (AEP) which is currently being rolled out across Europe.
Although many large energy users are already making improvements in the energy efficiency of their processes, greater competitive pressures, rising energy costs and growing environmental concerns call for even greater efficiencies to be found.
EDF Group's Advanced Efficiency Programme gives energy users accesss to its R&D engineers with the aim of providing what it describes as a greater depth of energy efficiency expertise.
