EDF to help London save energy February 2nd 2010 EDF Energy has been selected to join a panel, supported by the Mayor of London to enable public sector organisations to retrofit buildings with energy conservation measures easily and quickly.
The Building Energy Efficiency Programme (BEEP) brings together expertise from across the industry and will help fast track plans to implement carbon reduction strategies in buildings. Under the programme, organisations can expect guaranteed carbon, energy and cost savings.
EDF Energy has been selected for the framework agreement alongside its partner, Dalkia FM (MITIE). Together, they will recommend, implement and verify the measures to ensure that promised savings are achieved.
BEEP is a flagship international initiative aimed at reducing the carbon footprint of cities globally and is part of the Clinton Climate Initiative. London is the first of the C40 group of cities to appoint energy services companies, which will help save approximately 340,000 tonnes of CO2 per year by 2025.
The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, said: “This innovative financing and procurement model has been tested on our own fire stations, police stations and Transport for London buildings, so we know it delivers the goods in not only cutting carbon but also in making substantial cost savings and stimulating the demand for low carbon skills and technologies. We are willing and ready to share our solution with the rest of the UK and other world cities attempting to tread the same path.”
Charles Jegar, B2B Energy Services at EDF Energy, added: “EDF Energy is delighted to be selected for the BEEP Programme. We are committed to helping organisations reduce their energy consumption and their impact on the environment.
London’s lead role in this important programme demonstrates its long-term commitment to reducing carbon emissions and stimulating a low carbon economy for all. EDF Energy is proud to play a part in it.”
EDF Energy has already helped businesses and public sector organisations achieve energy savings in excess of 35% through energy awareness days designed to engage staff in energy saving, it’s Advanced Efficiency Programme that provides auditing and technical R&D, as well as the provision of Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) and Display Energy Certificates (DECs).
