Nine UK companies put forward for European sustainability awards January 14th 2008 Nine British companies have been short-listed for the 2008 European Business Awards for the Environment (EBAEs).
The Awards are designed to recognise and promote organisations which make an outstanding contribution to sustainable development.
Environmental issues are a prominent feature in most business agendas these days, and this teamed with the fact that there are now 27 member states in the EU means that competition for these awards has never been as fierce.
However, the calibre of the UK entrants this year has been extremely high, with companies such as Bovis Lend Lease, Boots, Walltransform and the Co-op being chosen to represent the UK in the awards. These will be held in June 2008 with the winners being announced in a ceremony inBrussels during Green Week (3-5 June 2008).
The RSA runs an accreditation scheme for environmental award schemes in the UK, and is also tasked with selecting the entrants for the EBAE awards. Companies that have already won one of the UK accredited award schemes are considered by a panel of experts and the best are put forward for the EBAEs.
