Mcdonald's converts chip fat to energy August 3rd 2007 In a move that it is estimated will save the company 1,675 tonnes of carbon, oil from its 900 restaurants will be combined with pure rapeseed oil to make high-quality biodiesel to fuel its delivery vehicles.
The move is hoped to improve McDonald's green credentials as the company has previously come under fire for its environmental record.
"This is a great example of how business can work together to help the environment, and is a natural complement to the work we are doing to our delivery schedules to cut food miles and fuel consumption," comments McDonald's senior vice president, Matthew Howe.
"We don't intend to stop here. Our work with The Carbon Trust will help us find more ways. big and small, to reduce our carbon impact across the whole of our business," adds Howe.
