Waste disposal and transport costs cut
December 1st 2007

HRS has supplied a fourth Unicus to Bitolea, an Italian-based waste management company.

The contract involved the supply of an 80 tube Unicus Dynamic Scraped Surface Heat Exchanger to form part of a large evaporator. This is used to concentrate chemical waste to recover solvents for resale and reduce environmental hazards.

The heat exchanger handles 5t of waste per hour.

The heat exchangers have enabled the company to achieve a 20 to 25% higher level of evaporation. Previously, 35% of its waste had to be sent to the cement factory for burning. This has now been reduced significantly, cutting both disposal and transport costs.

The design of the scraped surface unit also ensures that it is a non-fouling heat exchanger.
