The answer is blowing in the wind
April 1st 2008

Llumarlite Energy Systems is the exclusive distributor in the UK and Northern Ireland of WindRotors. After a successful first year Llumarlite annnouces a new generation of vertical axis wind turbines that are highly suited to Urban areas due to their low noise and that fact that they are independent of wind direction

The WindRotor is highly suited to urban environments which is where there will be a large expansion of the small scale on-site generation in line with the Gobernment's aims in the Energy White Paper to improve the conditions for microrenewables.

The WindRotor is able to satisfy the demands of commercial organisations in a number of ways, chiefly it generates very low noise, is able to gather wind power from any direction, especially useful when in urban environments, and it also needs a low wind speed for start up compared to traditional wind turbines.

In urban areas the roughness of the built environment and the variability of wind direction suit a vertical axis wind turbines which is omni-directional. Also due to its extremely low operating noise level, the wind is always louder than the turbine, the WindRotor can be situated in the heart of an urban environment. The WindRotor starts up from only 2 - 3 m/s (ie. a gentle breeze), most other vertical axis wind rotors (VAWR) are in excess of 4m/s.Therefore in lower wind speed areas averaging 6m/s Ropatec machines will be spinning and producing for "significantly" longer.

No power is used to assist start up.

The new generation of WindRotors are manufactured by Ropatec in Italy and are available exclusively in the UK and Northern Ireland from Llumarlite Energy Systems.Ropatec has over ten years experience in making and installing WindRotors some of which are in inhospitable locations where they have stood the test of time. There are Wind Rotors up mountains in the alps and in the Antarctic and they are still performing well without the need for much intervention or maintenance.

With this engineering pedigree you can have confidence that a WindRotor will stand up to the job.

Llumarlite Energy Solutions has recently installed a WindRotor at a Tesco store and there are many more in the planning stages.Tesco were impressed with the system's high reliability and its robustness to adverse weather conditions. This means that in high winds not only does the WindRotor still generate power, unlike other wind turbines that have to be slowed down or shut off, when the wind speeds get too high, they are not in danger or spinning too fast and breaking up in the process. As well as Tesco stores Llumarlite Energy Systems have plans to instal WindRotors at many other similar high-profile organisations.

In comparison to horizontal systems of the same output class the WindRotor has the decisive advantage of being designed to continue operating even in storms both quietly and effectively.

In relation to horizontal systems efficiency is slightly lower however, Ropatec WindRotor vertical axis machines are far more robust than most horizontal machines with the added advantages of lower maintenance costs, quieter operation and modern contemporary design.

Vertical Axis WindRotors will achieve planning permission in many areas where traditional horizontal machines will not.

Virtually maintenance free WindRotors are high quality sealed bearing rotors made from composite structure. They are designed to be virtually maintenance free even in extreme environments. As they are self-starting they have no complex solenoids or motors to fail.

Traditional horizontal installations require regular maintenance, since they contain moving parts such as gears, brakes, or mechanical devices to turn the vanes away from the wind (pitch control). All the energy produced is relayed back to the customers benefit.Once our rotors are installed they can be left to generate your power without any intervention or maintenance.

No RF (radio frequency) interference Due to the design of the vertical axis wind rotor, it does not interfere with radar or other communication signals. The extremely low extension of the electromagnetic field means that electrical installations, radio devices, telephones, and so on that are located in the vicinity are not affected.

3 options of power conversion Convert your power to an on-grid connection, battery power or a heating system for your water. A MultiSourcePower-Controller electronic control also makes it possible to combine a WindRotor installation with other energy sources to create a hybrid energy solution. This would typically be, for example, a photovoltaic system and/or a backup system (diesel generator). The entire combined system is controlled without any problems by the MultiSourcePower- Controller.Through this, a high degree of operation security and reliable availability of electrical energy is achieved.

Innovative as a result of the following properties: Independent of the wind direction Low maintenance High longevity, in excess of 20 years Start up at wind velocities of 2-3m/s. Nearly silent, even at high wind velocities Does not require any mechanical/electronic adjustment (pitch regulation) Does not require any cut-out mechanism Does not create an electromagnetic field outside of the turbine Problem-free operation as a hybrid system Unique and eye catching product
