Getting more from waste
February 1st 2008

Process engineering company Enpure, is to provide anaerobic digestion MBT technology to treat residual solid waste at two Greater Manchester Waste sites.

There will be two Anaerobic MBT plants built, one for North Manchester and one for Bredbury Parkway.

The North Manchester plant will treat some 110,000 tonnes per year of residual waste utilising the existing Dano Drums, followed by anaerobic digestion of the organic fraction of the fines to produce biogas using the BTA Process, and maturation of the digestate to producing a compost like material for landfill remediation.Using combined heat and power (CHP) the biogas will be converted to green electricity for export to the grid. The plant also recovers metals, glass and aggregates and grit for recycling.
