Awards success for Sale Waterside
December 1st 2006

The tremendous success of the partnership between Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council (TMBC) and Cofathec in the management of Sale Waterside has received acclaim from the judges in the national Premises & Facilities Management (PFM) Awards 2006.This is widely considered to be the most prestigious awards scheme in the facilities management sector and the Sale Waterside PFI project was awarded first place in 'Partners in PPP/PFI' category.

As well as housing Sale Town Hall, the Sale Waterside complex provides a wide range of services to Trafford residents and is home to the innovative Trafford Direct scheme.

All of the building facilities at Sale Waterside are managed on behalf of TMBC by Cofathec.

The judges were particularly impressed by the 'can do'attitude that prevails at Sale Waterside, with the two organisations working together in a partnership that transcends traditional client/supplier relationships.

Executive Member Councillor Stephanie Poole said "This is a great achievement in partnership working and shows how well the Council can work with the private sector for the benefit of the community." Cofathec facilities manager John Bohan explains:"Many such relationships are driven by contractual detail and an obsession with bureaucracy that stands in the way of progress. The relationship we have with TMBC is such that we deal with any issues quickly and efficiently, and then worry about the contract later".

TMBC's facilities manager George Evans is equally enthusiastic:"Winning this award is great recognition for Sale Waterside and the partnering we have put in place to ensure Trafford's residents get good value for their council tax. Fundamentally,Cofathec's job is to ensure the facilities are available and usable when they are needed. They have proved to be extremely responsive and adaptable to changing requirements, and this has made a significant contribution to Sale Waterside's success and its popularity with local people."
