 Simply natural daylight and ventillati
February 1st 2009

Monodraught Suncatchers and SunPipes have been installed at the Marks & Spencer's first 'green' Simply Food store at Galashiels in Scotland.

The 9000 sq ft store features a total of twelve SunPipes and three 800mm square Suncatchers among a whole host of 'eco' features in line with M&S'Plan A initiative, its business-wide 'eco-plan'. Roof mounted SunPipes and Windcatchers provide natural daylight and natural ventilation to staff areas. As the SunPipes provide natural daylight from dawn to dusk, daylight sensors are also installed to ensure that electric lights only come on when needed.

The store uses up to 25% less energy than an average Simply Food store and has been a test bed for developing new initiatives that have since been rolled out in other stores across the UK.

In line with the M&S eco approach, the design, specification and installation of Suncatchers and SunPipes was also sourced locally through JRF Services of Glenrothes, Monodraught's agent in Scotland for the last 15 years. Over that time, JRF has installed more than 900 Windcatcher and Suncatcher natural ventilation systems and almost 6000 SunPipe systems.
