Low profile cooling for oil rig February 1st 2008 When Haskel, a UK-based hydraulic
and accessories manufacturer,
required specialist cooling for an
oil rig off the Nigerian coastline, it
turned to Tricool Engineering.
Two chillers were required for
the rig with design parameters
dictated by the limited space and
hostile environment.Units had to
be no larger than 1.2m and able to
operate in temperatures to 50ºC (at
a reduced load) in a saline laden
atmosphere.
Tricool designed two 30kW
compact air-cooled glycol chillers
based on an ambient of 40ºC, with
compact 2200 x 2200 x 1000
footprints offering variable capacity
and delivery. Fans were sited on the
sides so that airflow discharged
horizontally. Low profile condensers
were made with copper tubes and
electro-tinned fins to stand up to
the salt-laden environment. More articles from The ICS Group: |
