Fighter pumps recycle energy
December 1st 2006

The Orkney Housing Association is in the process of erecting 32 domestic units in Stromness .

Each of the new units will have a NIBE Fighter 360P Heat Pump to recycle energy that would otherwise be lost in the ventilation process.

Even after the energy used to operate the NIBE Fighter is taken into account, the unit will recover over a third of the energy required for water and central heating in a conventional system. It is said that the Fighter is so efficient that the eventual discharge of exhaust air into the outside atmosphere is at a temperature very close to zero degrees Centigrade with all the saved heat, in the case of the Stromness development, channelled into a double-jacket tank supplying both domestic hot water and underfloor heating.
