Flash steam saves energy for hospital June 1st 2008 A flash steam recovery system
from Spirax Sarco is helping
Leighton Hospital in Crewe
reduce its carbon emissions by
around 95t/yr, cutting fuel bills by
over £10,000 and helping it meet
emissions trading targets.
The skid-mounted system is
fitted on the condensate return
from the laundry. Around 1,500
kg/h of condensate goes to the
boiler room from the laundry,
with around 14% vented to the
atmosphere as flash steam. The
new unit retains all this energy
and uses the flash steam to preheat
the feed water for the
laundry boiler, under pressure to
between 120 and 140°C – a rise of
over 50°C. More articles from Spirax Sarco Ltd: |
