Magnetic attraction April 1st 2006 Two major multinational manufacturing companies have been attracted to magnets to reduce their gas consumption. They have used the services of Ecoflow independent distributor Ian Gander's company Magnatech to install Energyflow magnets that help to increase the amount of gas burnt as it passes through a flame
Paul Ingham principal mechanical engineer of Atmel, one of the world's largest micro processing companies said, "I didn't really believe it was possible but after discussions with an ex-colleague who revealed his new company were using them and had validated their savings then we decided to try them."
Magnatech installed Energyflow magnets to one of their 5 MegaWatt boilers on trial. "Amazingly within 2 days savings were apparent," said Paul. "Initially they were around1- 1.5% but they increased daily. Now even with a boiler load increase of 47% we are still seeing a reduction in gas consumption per kw out, of around 9.6%.
"We realised significant savings were being made and have now fitted them to our other boiler and passed on the information to our HQ in the USA. We were delighted with the results and have decided to fit the domestic units Magnatech supply to our own boilers at home.
Why should Atmel be the only ones to benefit? We know they work!"
Paul had been told about trials conducted at a major pharmaceutical company in the North East. A spokesman for them said that initially they were very sceptical but interested. They had a pair of boilers that could be isolated for monitoring purposes and so trialled the Energyflow magnets on them. Within a week consumption had reduced and after 6 weeks savings of 11% were being recorded. "We were amazed at the results,"the spokesman said, "they paid for themselves in a few months and a year on we are still saving 11% compared to previous years on gas usage. Although the technology appears to be a black art it certainly works!"
Magnatech's owner Ian Gander said, "We are very pleased with the results Atmel and the pharmaceutical company have obtained but are not surprised.
Some companies have reported savings in excess of 20%".
A free inspection is carried out to ensure that the installation of Energyflow magnets would be possible and that there would be savings. "Some sites", says Ian, "are not suitable. However 90%+ of sites I have inspected are suitable.
Surprisingly, however, not everyone takes the plunge and carries out a trial. Some companies have no idea of how much fuel they are using or have never monitored it so they don't know if they are making savings! Others are not convinced - despite the evidence that it can work and so don't try them. Those companies that do give it a go have always reduced their gas consumption and saved money.
"Once a site has been approved for a trial then we simply strap our Energyflow magnets to the outside of the gas pipe in a particular arrangement. There is no cutting or interruption to the boiler's use.
Nothing is altered on the boiler. The magnets cause less un-burnt hydrocarbon to be released into the atmosphere. Trials can last up to 90 days with a full refund of the cost of the magnets if the customer is not satisfied with their savings. I have never had to refund an industrial application we have installed,"Ian said.
The technology in using magnets reportedly goes back to the second world war when some backroom boffins decided to attach magnets to fuel lines on spitfires and hurricanes, in level flight they were then apparently able to catch up with ME109's something they couldn't do without the magnets! Over the years magnet technology improved and the magnets used in the Energyflow units are made form a ceramic strontium base. It is calculated that in 100 years they will lose about 1% of their power.
The magnets installed by Magnatech are British made by Ecoflow, a Cornish Company that has been trading since the early 1990's. Any readers interested in arranging an initial free inspection should use the enquiry bar below: More articles from Magnatech Fuel Conditioning Ltd: |
